Podocarpus – Weeping (Podocarpus gracilior)
The Weeping Podocarpus, which can grow to 30-50 feet and spread 25-35 feet, is an evergreen that is known for its soft, elegant billowy appearance with “weeping” branch tips, bright green new foliage, and darker green mature foliage. It makes a striking accent plant, shade tree, or screening plant and is also used as an espalier. The lower branches can be allowed to touch the ground or can be pruned for a more oval shaped tree. The Weeping Podocarpus is a hardy plant which can grow in a variety of conditions. The Weeping Podocarpus is a hardy plant which can grow in a variety of conditions including near walkways or sidewalks since the roots will rarely cause problems. The tree is very drought-tolerant and does well in full sun to partial shade.
