Live Oak (Quercus virginiana)

The Florida Live Oak, a native tree, is considered one of the best choices for landscapes. It grows anywhere from 50 to 80 feet or even taller in rare cases with an attractive spreading crown. It is a beautiful evergreen shade tree that is a very hardy with elliptical shaped leather-like leaves which are shiny and dark green on top and a dull gray-green color underneath. The Live Oak is recognized as the southern symbol of strength and can live 350-400 years. It can grow well in most areas and requires very little care or maintenance. The edible acorns are important for many birds and mammals.
